fuck those ants. i feel threatened. the original male emotion/response. but i think there's something there. shouldn't everything in the universe be subjugated to man's will? it should because it can. man's highest purpose, indeed its ultimate triumph, is to force nature to yield, to intercede in the chaos, to order things according to man's will. man's will is god's will. let it be done.
maybe i've just been reading too much mccarthy.
but is this not made possible, indeed, commanded, by the primacy of reason? for reason is the only authority higher than nature. one of you will ask about love. nature breaks love. you've seen it. love is not more than a salve to soothe the wounds of man's battles with nature; love is not a weapon but a shield. reason is the way. it is the sword before which nature will bow.
