off the hook

i kid, i kid. check out superbligged's review of peter hook at the lizard lounge. i won't rehash, but it was a lot more fun that i thought it was going to be. it was my first time to the lizard lounge, and it kind of felt weird. it was like a mix between a strip club (without strippers) and the set of the grind on mtv. there were a lot of dudes stalking around in skate shoes, baggy jeans, and wife beaters (with their short sleeved button-downs draped over their shoulders). with eyebrow rings and shit. and there's certain, de rigeur club-kid dance that's peculiar to dallas. i can't explain it, but you'd know it if you saw it, and it was in full effect. seriously, what year is this? the whole scene was straight out of the late 90's. (for example, he was spinning cd's that were stored in a black case logic binder).

the set was decent, although there were some cringe-inducing transitions and more than a few rubbish tracks by the killers, et al. but i won't hate, because 90% of the set was sick (superbligged was feeling born slippy). fitting way to wind down a show that was heavily reminscent of a time and a place (just not the time/place you'd expect from peter hook). all things considered, it was the most fun i've had in a long time (but not since the 90's).
