i'm really struggling with this recent mavs loss. i usually don't like to blame a loss on the officiating; you can always argue that a team should have done more to put itself in a better position to win the game. in this case, the mavs could have hit a few more shots or made a few more free throws. according to jason kidd, ever the consummate professional, "the game didn't come down to that last play. we tried to take a foul and didn't get that. you've got to make plays down the stretch and we didn't do that."
i generally agree, but the non-call at the end of the game was too egregious for me to be that reasonable. the god-damned officials have to know the mavs have a foul to give and have to call the intentional foul. what more could wright do to get a call?
of course, you can blame 'toine for not playing until the whistle, and you can blame the mavs for allowing denver to close the lead to 2 points on an[other] easy dunk with 30 seconds left. but the fact of the matter is the mavs got jobbed on the last call, and i've fucking had it with the consistently inconsistent officiating in the nba. it makes me even more enraged that the league admitted that it was missed call. what does it matter? series over. thanks fuckfaces.
all that said, i don't think that call changes the outcome of this series [like the officiating in the 2006 finals did]. i don't have any delusions that this mavs team was going to make it out of this series. but i am concerned about dirk. i mean, what more can the dude do? year in and year out, he puts this team [and city] on his back and doesn't say shit. he single-handedly makes this team competitive and all he gets is criticism. and i'm tired of it. stop blaming dirk and get the guy some fucking help.
