The police report said the woman was walking with a co-worker at about 5:50 a.m. in the 400 block of South Akard Street when a man approached her and said, "I'm going to shoot you." The man grabbed at the woman's purse, pushing her to the ground and then shot her in the head. He did not get her purse.
The woman was taken to Baylor Hospital and was reported to be in serious condition.
Two other purse-snatching robberies occurred in the same area earlier in the morning. The first robbery took place in the 3500 block of Commerce Street. The other robbery was in the 800 block of South Akard Street.
Police believe the same man was involved in all the cases.
The suspect was described as a black male in his late 20s or early 30s. In the first two robberies, the suspect was said to be wearing brown checkered shorts. A more detailed description of the suspect has yet to be given.
